El Che in Love

In 1950 Eduardo Guevara, "el Che", meets Maria del Carmen Ferreyra, "Chichina".
In a letter dated from October the 20th, 1951, addressed to her, Eduardo Guevara confesses a primal fear.

The paradoxical sparkle of those green eyes told me that it would be dangerous to fall asleep in them...

In 1951 "el Che" is summoned by the "road call". In his "Traveler's Notes", the entry that records the fairwell to Chichina is a translation of a poem by Otero Silva.

I heard the squelching sound of her shoeless feet in the boat
And could imagine those night-time signs of hunger.
My heart was a pendulum, swinging between her and the road.
Where did I find the strength to free myself from her eyes?
I slipped from her arms.
She stood, clouding her distress with tears,
beyond the rain and the window.
But she couldn't bring herself to call after me:
"Wait! I'm coming with you!"
